The Life of Handel (continued)
Handel in England
Pasticcios
When Handel arrived in London in the autumn of 1710, it was in the throes of a mania for pasticcios of Italian operas. Both words and music were drawn from multiple composers, with little concern for narrative, or even continuity. Typically, the Italian soloists were sang in Italian, the choruses in English.© 2009 Tiger of the Stripe, 50 Albert Road, Richmond, Surrey TW10 6DP, UK
